Oily Skin Care

Oily skin is characterized by skin that is shiny and oily to the touch and has large pores. Oily skin is caused by glands that overproduce secretions in the skin. This can lead to both black and white heads developing on the skin. The good news is that oily skin is generally strong and resistant and is less prone to wrinkle or develop expression lines. But just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean that you’re doomed to have acne forever. It just means following a healthy skin care routine that can help keep these extra secretions to a minimum. Here are a few tips on how to care for oily skin.

Basic care of oily skin begins with washing the face at least twice a day, and three times if possible. While oily skin may be resistant, many of the stronger ingredients in skin care products are not necessary and a regular cleanser can be used. If you are constantly fighting acne, you may wish to try a cleanser that has salicylic acid. Cleaning the face on a regular basis is more important that using a cleanser for oily skin. Still, soap and products with alcohol should be avoided. Soap can irritate the skin, while alcohol can over dry the skin.

A very important tip for those that suffer oily skin is to always remember to take off your makeup
before going to bed. Leaving on the makeup keeps the skin from breathing properly and blocking the pores can lead to the development of pimples or black heads. No matter how late you get home or how tired you are, always get in the habit of removing your makeup at the end of the day.

If you’re in the habit of using a toner, you can continue as long as it doesn’t contain alcohol. The jury is out whether toner can help your skin or not, as many modern cleansers have ingredients that refresh the skin, but it can help eliminate residue from the cleanser and it does feel good on the skin.

Moisturizer is still important, even if you’re battling oily skin. Try to use a moisturizer formulated for your skin type, which will hydrate your skin after the other products have done their work to reduce the extra secretions.

Five steps for healthy skin

Step1: Cleansing

Good cleansing removes the impurities, bacteria and dead cells that accumulate on
the surface of the epidermis as well as any residue from makeup, while leaving as
much of the lubricating natural oil (or sebum) as possible. A cleanser should
therefore be gentle and natural. Use a non-lathering cleansing. Massage in circular
movements over the face and neck. Leave on for 1-2 minutes to dissolve grime and
old make-up. Then gently wipe off with cotton swabs. Rinse off with warm water.
Once in a while, or on a more regular basis for those with oily skin, a clay or fruit or
oat-based cleansing mask used for a deeper cleansing action.

Step 2: Herbal facial steam
One traditional and very simple way to deep clean the skin is to steam your face for a few minutes. Steaming removes dirt and pollution very efficiently from the skin, but it removes important natural oils as well. So, although the technique brings excellent results on an oily skin or anyone suffering from acne, most skin types must bear in mind that in the long term it has a drying effect.
Steaming should therefore be used very occasionally on a dry or aging skin (once in a month is the maximum) and never for more than 2-3 minutes. On a oily skin, it can be done once a week, and for 5-8 minutes. For a combination skin, 2-3 minutes once a week is recommended maximum. A normal skin will benefit form an occasional steaming (every two weeks) as long as the exposure to steam is not prolonged (5minutes maximum). It is not recommended for extremely sensitive skins.

Select a herbal facial steam that's best for your skin type.
Bring the dry herbs (lavender, chamomile, lemon grass, rosemary, etc.) to a boil in a
large pot of water. Remove from heat source; steam for 5 minutes. A facial steam is
the best possible way for deep pore cleansing, and each of the herbs used in rich in
nutrients that nourish and tone the skin. Immediately after your facial steam, rinse
your face with cold water.

Step 3: Facials
Facials are excellent for stimulating circulation to the skin. It brings fresh blood to the skin. They promote deep pore cleansing and help heal blemishes and acne. Facials also help tone and firm the skin.
They are several kinds of facials available. You can try some homemade facial masks (clay mask, honey mask, egg mask, oats mask, fruits and vegetables mask, etc) to get a beautiful skin.

Step 4: Tonic astringents
When the facial is completely dry, rinse off with warm water. Be gentle to your skin while rinsing of the facial material. Use soft, circular motions. Massage your skin; do not scrub it. Immediately after rinsing the facial, apply an astringent preparation to tone and close the pores.

Step 5: Moisturizer

Dot the skin with moisturizer and gently massage it in smooth circular movements.
Try to do this slowly as it allows you to massage the skin and relax yourself. Apply
vitamin E oil or, a small amount of eye cream around the eyes and gently pat it in
with your finger. The tapping action helps relieve puffy eyelids and also stimulates
the acupressure points around the eyes.

Skin type test

Wash your face with a neutral (not made for a particular skin type) soap or cleanser
(such as Neutrogena for normal skin). Rinse with water. Pat try with a towel just
enough to absorb moisture do not rub. Wait one hour, and then blot your entire face
with one ply (or layer) of a large facial tissue. Press lightly all over your face and leave
for about one minute. Then remove the paper carefully and examine it near a window
or a light.

What do you see?

· If you see oil throughout the tissue, you most likely have oily skin.

· If you see oil only in the T zone (across forehead, down nose and chin), you most
likely have combination skin.
· If you see very little oil throughout, you most likely have normal skin.
· If you see no sign of oil at all, you most likely have dry skin.
· If your skin feels irritated or slightly itchy, you most likely have sensitive skin.

You'll need to perform this test several times a year during spring, summer and winter

because your skin changes with the seasons.

Natural acne treatment

Mint for Acne

Peppermint is preferable to spearmint as a medicinal herb because it contains menthol. But if you can't find peppermint or aren't sure which type of mint they have at the market, use whatever is available. Peppermint is easy to grow in most climates; consider growing your own supply.
Crushed mint as an herbal acne remedy.

Method
Take a handful of mint leaves and crush them thoroughly with a mortar and pestle.
Rub the leaves and juice on affected skin and leave for 5-10 minutes.
Rinse with cold water.
Repeat as often as desired to alleviate pain and inflammation.

Why It Works
Peppermint contains menthol which is a natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory.

Oatmeal for Acne

Method
Cook a single serving of plain oatmeal as you would for eating.
Add approximately ¼ cup honey and mix thoroughly.
Allow to cool.
Apply to face, avoiding the eye area.
Leave for 10-20 minutes. Do not leave it on too long or it will become difficult to remove.

Why It Works
The oatmeal cleanses pores by absorbing oil and exfoliating the skin. Honey eases application and serves as a skin toner.

Lemon juice for acne

Method
Mix equal parts lemon juice and rose water.
Apply directly to skin. You might feel an initial sting from the lemon juice.
Rinse after 15-30 minutes.

Why It Works
Lemon juice is a natural astringent and mild antibacterial agent. Rose petals, from which rose water is made, also have antibacterial properties. It is a also a skin toner and helps to mitigate the rather harsh, acidic quality of straight lemon juice.

Precautions
Be careful of exposing your skin to direct sunlight if you have been using lemon juice on your face. Also, though a strong reaction is unlikely, do not continue this treatment if it irritates your skin.

What is Acne?

Acne is the most frequent and unpleasant dermatologic problem. Every fifth person on this planet suffers of this embarrassing disease. First of all, acne is not an infectious disease. It is provoked by the interaction of the normal saprophyte bacterium and a very oily skin.

The increase of the sebum secretion blocks the pilosebaceous excretion channel and thus blackheads appear. The hair follicle's colonization by the bacterium called "Propionibacterium" produces the inflammation and the papules and pustules. The most common sites of acne are the face, chest, shoulders and mostly on the back but also on the scalp.

This disease affects both girls and boys and it worsens at the age of 17. The lesions' intensity decreases towards the age of 21 and at the age of 25 they disappear all alone. Only 5% of the women and 1% of the men at the age 40 are still affected by acne.   According to some authors, the acne is hereditary but this is not proven yet. What is for sure is that stress causes acne - as students who have exams can confess. This disease provokes depressions, anxiety and social and professional handicap which closes the vicious circle.

Girls noticed, of course, an increase of the eruption during the menstruation and the mentality that the problem will be solved once one begins the sexual life or that abstinence determined its aggravation, remains only a myth.

Beside the acne vulgaris we have already mentioned, there are other clinical forms of acne, listed according to their origin, such as:

  • newborns acne
  • postnatal acne
  • acne caused by medication
  • acne caused by industrial chemical substances (such as chlorine)
  • acne caused by oil-based products, pomades and cosmetic products
  • acne estival or after ionizing radiations

To get white Nails

To whiten your nails, try these:

Use a common whitening toothpaste. Try scrubbing your nails with Pearl Drops, it’s just as easy as achieving a pearly white smile and will take away any stains and shine up your nails.

Soak your nails in water with lemon juice or lemon slices. The lemon acts as an astringent and will strip away stains. Once your hands are dry, you’ll only need to put on a couple of coats of a clear topcoat.

If you want to keep your nails clean and white, just soak them in warm water for three minutes. Then put two Alka-Seltzers in the mix and soak until it stops fizzing!
Also you can clean yellow nails with 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide. Another variant is to use the mixture of glycerin with hydrogen peroxide (proportion 1:5). To get the better effect try to make the mixture of glycerin, perhydrol and distilled water (proportion 1:1,5:4).
If you are not satisfied with result, try mechanic way of whitening. Soak the nails to help them soften in the warm bath with soap and salt water for 10 minutes. And then pumice upper yellow layer of nails.

dark rings treatment

Have you got dark rings and you don't know how to "get rid" of them? Experts advise you to first attend the cause that determined their apparition.

Causes of dark rings:
  • There are a lot of causes that can determine the appearance of the unaesthetic dark rings, from lack of sleep to diverse dysfunctions of the organism. The skin reflects the health state of each and every one of us. That is why it is advised to live a healthy life style, without excesses: consume 2 liters of liquids per day and keep a close eye on what you eat. Lack of iron in the organism, can also lead to dark rings, that is why, if you want to follow a diet, it is advised to seek the advice of a nutritionist.
  • Fatigue is another "culprit" of the appearance of dark rings. Therefore no matter how busy you are, you must make time for your beauty sleep (in other words go to bed before 0.00).

Natural recipes against dark rings:

If, for whatever reason, dark rings have still appeared, you must seek an expert. A therapy of 6-8 sessions of ionization and lymphatic drainage is required to diminish them. One session, in which professional products are used, lasts half an hour. In case results have yet to appear, it is proceeded to the plant extracts professional masks therapy. It is well known that after a certain age, the skin faces different unaesthetic problems. To prevent and attenuate them, it is recommended to seek the advice of a geriatrician, who will prescribe a treatment. The sessions carried out by the cosmetician combine with the treatment prescribed by the geriatrician lead to amazing results.

Home skin care:

Of course that the care you benefit from at a beauty salon must be doubled by a careful conduct at home. The skin around the eyes is very delicate, as it lacks sebaceous glands and that is why it needs permanent nourishment and hydration. Two times a day, in the morning and evening, after you removed makeup with a special eye solution, apply a moisturizing cream or cooling gel. Very important is the choice of skin care products (they must have dermatological and eye protection approval). Home made natural recipes are also effective. That is why it is recommended to use corn flower or linden infusions. First apply a thick layer of product against dark rings of which put a compress with a corn flower or linden infusion. Also very effective in removing dark rings are cucumber slices kept in the freezer and then applied, after a couple of minutes, on the eyelids.

Milk- It Can Do A Body Good

Milk is one of the newest trends in body care these days, and it is showing up all over the place. Milk is in the media, hair salons, wellness centers, day spas, department stores, and health food stores, only to name a few. There is cow milk, goat milk, soy milk, almond milk, oat milk, and milk you may not care to know the origin.

Milk has been used for beauty treatments for quite some time, and there is evidence that Cleopatra soaked in baths of donkey or goat milk for hours at a time to beautify her skin. Asian cultures have relied on the benefits of rice milk for centuries to nourish and soothe skin, while cultures in tropical climates have found that coconut milk has numerous skin soothing properties.

Milk comes from the mammary glands of female mammals, so it makes perfect sense that it would be loaded with nutrients. In addition, milk is abundant in many plant species and is commonly derived from nuts, seeds and fruits. Today, milk of both plant and animal origin can be found in all sorts of body care products.

For some, milk brings to mind thoughts of wholesomeness, simplicity, or purity, and this easily draws people to try body treatments and products that contain any form of it. Who wouldn't want to soak in a creamy, milky-white bath of cinnamon scented oat milk or have their body covered in a warm elixir made with milk, honey and orange zest? The possibilities are endless: peaches and cream, almond milk and roses, chocolate-mint cream, or coconut milk and lime. Many spas around the world offer some type of treatment that utilizes milk, while body care product lines have introduced it into shampoos, soaps, lotions and nail care. Milk contains lactic acid, which actually dissolves the glue that binds dead skin cells to our skin's surface. Consequently, the milk is sloughing off dead skin cells and acting as an exfoliant. When we exfoliate our skin, it automatically feels softer, but when exfoliation is combined with the skin smoothing and hydrating effects of milk, it may no longer feel like your own. Milk contains proteins, enzymes, amino acids, and antioxidants, all incredibly valuable for our skin. The milk proteins are skin-enhancing since they promote smoothness and help to strengthen skin structure. The milk enzymes and amino acids are responsible for stimulating the skin's natural moisture barrier, which makes way for intense hydration and skin cell regeneration. Finally, milk's antioxidants are great for combating environmental damage and provide future protection from further damage.

Now, you have a better understanding of milk's sudden popularity in the body care industry. Not only do the combination of milk and other elements sound delicious, but they also provide nutrition for the skin, often times are all-natural, and can be just plain fun! Next time you are near body care products, take a look, and I'm sure you'll find some milk around.

The Benefits of Dead Sea Salt

The lowest point on Earth, 400 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea is one of nature's most exotic and exhilarating spas. The water has a high concentration of minerals and salts in a unique combination that is rich in potassium, calcium, sodium, bromine, magnesium, as well as others. Numerous thermo-mineral springs run under the Sea and along its shores. These supply the Sea with curative minerals that create a rich mineral black mud. With over 60% mineral content, black mud from the Dead Sea has a calming, analgesic effect, and anti-inflammatory properties. Uses as a beauty treatment, these salts and mud deeply cleanse the skin and minimize wrinkles and aging while revitalizing the complexion.

The Dead Sea is mystical. The concentration of minerals in its rich, black mud and water is ten times higher than those of any other sea on Earth. Bath salts made from Dead Sea salt act as a relaxant, rejuvenator, skin healer and bactericide. This unique combination of minerals allows damaged skin to recreate a healthier appearance and a more maintainable surface. The most effective elements are the richness in bromine, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. These minerals have a positive influence on germs that live on the body's skin and helps prevent infection and inflammation. They also regenerate skin and alleviate itchiness.

Bath salts that are harvested from the Dead Sea offer an alternative therapy for those suffering from skin ailments. Research has proven that these salts offer relief for skin and rheumatic conditions while presenting relaxation to the entire body.

Thousands of people who suffer from rheumatism and skin ailments travel to the Dead Sea every year to enjoy the healing effect of the water and black mud that can only be found there. The special composition of the Sea's minerals have won acclaim in medical circles as being successful in a wide range of treatment for many common ailments such as migraines, stress related conditions, rheumatism, neuralgia, allergies, psoriasis, and skin problems caused by an improper diet.

People who suffer from psoriasis have dry, itchy skin that becomes inflamed. Dead Sea bath salts relieve the symptoms of this skin disease for which there is no known cure. The salts cause the top layer of skin to break-up smoothly. The epidermis, which is the second layer of skin, is receptive to magnesium and other minerals in the salt. The high level of bromine in the bath salts brings effective relief. The success of bath salt treatments depends largely on regular use.

Today, life is filled with stress. Daily tensions are taking their toll on mankind, both mentally and physically. Tension headaches, anxiety attacks and muscular aches and pains are ways that our body tells us it's had too much of a bad thing. If you are feeling the effects of life's hustle and bustle, take a daily, half-hour bath using Dead Sea bath salts. If you have trouble finding the bath salts, add 2 tablespoons of pure, Dead Sea salt to your bath water. Dead Sea salt can be purchased at most health food stores. Your daily bath will give you the benefit of complete body relaxation, due to the bromine in the salt. This mineral is known world wide for its tranquilizing effect and is particularly beneficial in reducing anxiety, tension, stress and migraines.

After starting treatment of a daily bath in water containing dead sea products or, you will feel like a new person. The nice part is that the tranquil feeling can be felt after just one treatment.

Natural Foot Scrub & Lotion

Our feet are all too often hidden from view and neglected, especially during the colder winter months. Out of sight and out of mind - that is, until they start aching, flaking, cracking or getting sore! Perhaps we don't always appreciate the work our feet do until they're not working properly.
The simple fact is that we only have one pair of feet to last us a lifetime, and should pay them the respect they deserve for getting us around every day. And when summer arrives, it's a much better prospect to unveil a pair of perfectly pristine pedicured tootsies than two cracked-heeled and scaly feet!
The easiest solution to keeping your feet in tip-top condition is to make your own natural foot scrub and lotion, and apply regularly. The foot scrub will help to gently exfoliate the dead skin cells, whilst foot lotion will help to keep your foot's skin supple and soft.

Before applying this natural foot scrub and lotion recipe, you can give the especially hard skin areas on your feet a helping hand. After soaking in the bath, a pumice stone can be gently rubbed over the offending areas to help wear down thickened skin that commonly occurs on the heels.

Foot Scrub Recipe

Making your own foot scrub is so easy! The first simplest recipe you can use for a foot scrub is using sea salt and olive oil. Firstly soak your feet in warm water. Then simply add a teaspoon of sea salt to a few milliliters of olive oil, and massage over your feet before washing off. The olive oil is a fantastic skin moisturizer that helps to condition your toenails, whilst the sea salt gently exfoliates your skin.
However, there are more exotic recipes for foot scrubs that will leave your feet smelling gorgeous. For a more rejuvenating herbal recipe, you'll need:
  • Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Sea Salt
Firstly, you will need to measure out around one and a half cups of sea salt and add around 4 tablespoons of sweet almond oil. Make sure to combine the mixture evenly. Then simply add two or three drops of both the lavender and peppermint essential oils to the mixture.
Once you've soaked your feet in warm water for around 5 minutes, you can then gently massage the foot scrub all over your feet, before rinsing off. Again, the salt acts as a natural exfoliate, whilst the sweet almond oil gently softens, nourishes and moisturizes. The lavender essential oil adds a soothing tone, and the peppermint revives and revitalizes.

Foot Lotion Recipes
Foot lotion or cream tends to be thicker than general all-body moisturizers. It's therefore a good idea to make up a batch of your own natural foot lotion at home - so that you can focus on pampering your feet in the way that they deserve!
As above, you can use some basic natural ingredients in place of commercial lotions and moisturizers. Making your own foot lotion can be amazingly easy. For instance, almond oil, olive oil and jojoba oil are all great starter ingredients that will leave your feet irresistibly smooth.

Other foot 'foods' that nourish and moisturize the skin include mashed banana combined with honey and lemon juice. You can apply this mixture to your feet, put on a pair of old socks and leave overnight. In the morning remove the socks, wash your feet and hey presto - stunningly smooth skin!
Avocado is also another great natural ingredient in place of foot lotion. Simply mash and apply in the same way for exceptional results.

One of the popular methods to get a soft and smooth skin is the use of cucumber face mask. Mash a cucumber and strain its water. Add 1 tbsp sugar to it. Blend the mixture well and refrigerate it. Apply the cucumber-water, mixed with sugar, on your face and leave it for 15 minutes. Rub off the mask and wipe your face with a damp sponge.

Strawberry Face Mask

You can also use strawberries to make a face mask. Take five ripe strawberries and rinse them thoroughly, with lukewarm water. Take a small bowl and mash the fruit in it, using a fork. Add 2 tsp fresh, whipped cream and 1 tsp honey. Mix well to form a paste. Apply the paste on your face generously and leave it for 20 minutes. Remove the mask by rinsing your face with water.

Almond Face Mask

Mix 1 tbsp of finely ground almond and 1 tbsp honey. Add 1 egg white to the mixture and blend it well. This will form a paste. Apply the paste on your face and allow it to set for 15 minutes. Wipe off the mask with a damp sponge or rinse it off with water.

natural Hand Moisturizing Creams

beeswax and coconut oil hand cream

This natural hand moisturizing cream helps to moisturize the skin and helps protect the skin from the elements and harsh weather. I suggest using this hand moisturizing cream in replace of your regular hand cream. This hand moisturizing cream should be used in the morning and evening. However, if you suffer from severely dry skin on the hands you can use this hand moisturizing cream throughout the day as needed.

  • In a small sauce man, bring the water to a heavy boil them remove from the heat. Pour in the apricots, and then put to the side.
  • In a double broiler, set to low heat, add in the beeswax, apricot oil and coconut oil. Stir the mixture together gently as it warms, and remove from the heat once the beeswax has melted.
  • Puree the apricots and water, then strain the mixture into a medium mixing bowl. Add in the aloe Vera gel and vitamin E oil and stir together gently.
  • Slowly drizzle the mixture into the beeswax mixture, stirring constantly as you add it.
  • Once it's been thoroughly mixed, pour into a glass jar or cosmetics bottle, and then allow it to reach room temperature. Store the hand cream in the fridge between uses.

Olive oil and Honey Hand Cream

Olive oil and honey hand cream is a simple, easy to make hand cream that is great for nourishing and moisturizing the skin after a long day of working with the hands. Olive oil and honey hand cream is also good for moisturizing hands after washing the dishes, an everyday activity that saps essential moisture from the hands, often leaving them dry and rough. Olive oil and honey hand cream will keep for about four months from the day it is made if stored in a cool, dark place between uses.
  • Combine the olive oil, raw honey and liquid lecithin in a blender. Blend on high speed for 30 seconds to thoroughly combine the ingredients.
  • Add the apple cider vinegar and vitamin E oil and pulse on low for about one minute.
  • Transfer the olive oil and honey hand cream to a small wide-mouth glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.

Natural moisturizers for the body

Moisturizing Body Cream

This moisturizing body cream takes advantage of the moisturizing and skin softening properties of avocado and its natural oil. This moisturizing body cream is perfect for any skin type, including sensitive skin and extremely dry skin. I suggest using this as an overnight treatment for dry skin, or just use as needed.

  • In a small saucepan, warm the avocado oil, beeswax, anhydrous lanolin and wheat germ. Slow the mixture together gently, and remove from the heat once the beeswax has melted and been mixed thoroughly with the other ingredients.
  • In a small bowl, pour in the tablespoon of water, citric acid and borax. Stir together gently until the borax and citric acid have fully dissolved.
  • Slowly begin to pour the borax mixture into the avocado mixture, stirring the mixture together gently as you add it. Only add half, and then wait a minute before adding the other half, slowly.
  • Break one vitamin E capsule and one soy lecithin capsule into the mixture, and stir gently. Add in the geranium oil, and stir until the mixture becomes a mayonnaise consistency.
  • Pour the mixture into a glass jar with a lid, and store in the fridge.

Moisturizing Body Oil

You can make natural moisturizing body oil up in less than five minutes at home. This particular
blend smells so great that you may forego your usual perfume indefinitely!

  • Pour the grape seed oil into your bottle.
  • Add the neroli oil and the lemon oil.
  • Add the vanilla oil, and then add the cinnamon oil to the bottle.
  • Close the bottle and shake vigorously for 60seconds.
  • Spray the oil onto your body and massage it into your skin. On warm days, this oil blend can be chilled lightly for a few minutes in your refrigerator for a cool and refreshing mist.

Natural Body Lotion

Skin care products often include harsh chemicals among their ingredients. While a bottle of organic body lotion may carry an outrageous price tag, you can whip up your own natural lotions at home for a fraction of the price.
  • Decide whether you would like to add an herbal infusion to your natural body lotion. You may add 2 tsp. of fresh chamomile, rosemary, eucalyptus or other herbs to 1 cup of boiling water and allow to simmer on low heat until it reduces to 1/2 cup. Use your herbal infusion in place of distilled water when making your lotion base.
  • Make your basic body lotion base. Combine 1/2 cup of distilled water or herbal tea, 1/2 cup of a carrier oil and 1 tbsp. of liquid lecithin in a blender. Choose an extra virgin or cold-pressed oil as your carrier oil. Appropriate oils for body lotions include grape seed, coconut, olive and sweet almond.
  • Add up to 20 drops of other healing oils to your natural body lotion if desired. Some popular healing oils include geranium, vitamin E, myrrh and tea tree oil. At this point you can also add 10 to 15 drops of your favorite essential oil or a combination of oils.
  • Blend the natural ingredients in a blender on "whip" or "cream." Carefully pour your finished body lotion into a bottle with a tight fitting lid. If you live in a hot climate, store your lotion in the refrigerator to extend shelf life or keep your lotion in a cool, dark place.
